This review is from: Summer Infant Ear & Throat Exam Kit (Baby Product) I bought this as our child had multiple well documented ear infections. I found this very difficult to use - could not visualize the ear drum/membrane very well. After trying for a couple of times, I went ahead, returned this and bought a medical grade otoscope by ADC (available via Amazon), and liked that a lot. Though this is a good looking instrument, and seems to be designed well, I am not sure why it doesnt work very well in visualizing the eardrum. I am pretty sure it isnt merely my technique - the ADC otoscope works very well in my hands.. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Summer Infant Ear & Throat Exam Kit (Baby Product) This product is okay. It does not work as well as I had hoped it would, but for $10 you get what you pay for. If I could go back and make the purchase again I would spend a little more money and buy a better made product. The removable tips do not fit on the otoscope as well as they should, making it difficult to get a good view of the eardrum. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By ESTHER217 (cedar springs) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) He was complaining about his ear hurting, so I took a look. Make sure you pull the ear out, so you can get a good look. Once I did, I could clearly see his ear was red! We called the doctor and got an antibiotic script phoned in and saved us an office visit. Within a day of antibiotics he was feeling much better.
Checking kids is a different story. I don't know how those doctors get a good look! The kids squirm and move and their ears are so small. I could see in my 4 year olds ears, but forget getting in the toddlers ears! Even with someone holding him, I was afraid of hurting him. So we just took him to the doctor! The pictures in the brochure are really helpful. If you can seem creamy white, milky color, the ear is fine. Any pink or red and it is time to call the doctor. So glad we bought it. One note, make sure you...Read more |
