I initially was very disappointed with this product on 2 counts and was ready to throw it away. The first complaint was that I did not think there was enough suction, and ironically, once I did get it to work, the second was that it sucked so much snot out that you could not clean it properly.
After a few days of using the aspirator with no success, one day I got a hugely satisfying "glork" and a ton of snot came out of my daughter's nose. The trick was 1) holding her still, 2) getting a good seal (I've read that blocking the other nostril works well, but she's fighting me too much to do that single-handedly), and 3) making sure that the mucous is hydrated enough to come out. If it is dry, it won't work. Using a saline mist or taking a shower with her prior to aspirating usually helps.
Once I was able to consistently get snot out, the other problem came when she had so much mucous that it got sucked into the vacuum trap (the space between the machine and the...Read more

I'm an RN and thought this would be a silly purchase but when I needed a nasal aspirator this was the only one I could find. Now I highly recommend it. Easy to clean (just found out you can take the whole plastic blue part off and run it under water and reconnect) It may work better if you put some saline drops in her nose first, cover the other one shut. This also works better if you get your baby on the floor and pin her arms back with your legs. I got out at ton of mucus today! So happy with this purchase. My baby seemed happy to breathe again and didn't even really mind the process. Always clean after each use. The reason I gave it 4 stars is that you may need to change batteries often. I just gave them a twist to get them stronger.
3 months later: Now I'm upgrading... this doesn't work that well anymore and its too skinny for my 9mth olds nose!

My little one got his first cold and I wanted to do what I could to help him breathe. I purchased this aspirator directly from the store and it has earned it's keep. Read the instructions before using it. I found a lot of the reviews discussed the WRONG way to use this aspirator. You have to make sure the device is straight up towards the ceiling, don't try to suction with the baby lying flat. Sit the baby up, make sure the push button is on the bottom part of the device (closest to baby's face). Put it in their little nose, then push the button to turn it on. When used that way, it works like a charm! Clean after each use because sometimes the mucus escapes the little blue compartment and may come in contact with the suction hole. If you let it get in there, it would probably get clogged and lose suction. So yeah, read the instructions and this thing is worth every penny! So easy to use and clean. My little one doesn't like it too much, but he is soooo happy when he can breathe...Read more
