I love Desitin Creamy. It prevents and heals diaper rash, but is still relatively easy to wipe off during diaper chages and baths, unlike the original Desitin. It's a great product.

But the price here - $13-16 for two 4.8oz tubes is crazy. You can get it for $4.19 at Target. Even my local grocery store is selling it for less than $6 a tube!

We've been using Desitin Creamy Diaper Rash Ointment since our baby was born 14 months ago. I think my wife got the suggestion from other mothers she knows. In any case, the little guy can get pretty rough and red at times and the ointment seems to help a lot. I've noted several times that there's a great difference in his redness between the last changing of the evening and the first changing the next morning. Personally, I don't care for the smell of the cream, but the baby shows no notice.

One time, our baby somehow got a hold of the tube while alone. He managed to get the ointment all over the wood floor, the carpet and, of course, all over himself. He looked rather pathetic, but we couldn't help laughing about it. What next? The cleanup was difficult, especially with the carpet. The kid suffered no ill effects from the experience even though he probably ingested at least a small amount of the ointment. This is a product I can recommend to new parents.

Desitin is great for preventing diaper rash. I am a nurse...the best way to apply Desitin is as a prevention measure. Either use it daily or at night when you know the baby will be sitting in pee awhile. If my baby is getting diarrhea, then I apply it at every change so the next poop doesn't actually touch the skin itself, just the cream. Most importantly, the skin must be DRY when you apply the cream. The cream creates a moisture barrier on the skin to keep out bad moisture (urine, poop), but make sure you are not locking in moisture (from wiping)...let the bottom air dry first. If your baby does get a rash, the product will burn some..I like to apply a bit of powder and then the cream...doesn't seem to hurt so much and still works to heal.

Hope this helps some new moms. The product is great when used like it is meant to.
